How to Care for Your Newly Seeded Lawn
Choose the Right Seed for Your Climate
When choosing your seed, make sure it is right for your climate and soil type. If you are in a cooler climate, you will want to select a grass seed that is suited to that climate. If your soil is clay or sandy, you will want to select a seed that is suited to that soil type.
Prepare the Soil
Before you sow your seed, you will want to prepare the soil. Clear away any debris, such as stones and sticks, and till the soil. You may also need to add fertilizer and adjust the pH level of the soil if it is not ideal for your grass seed.
Sow the Seed
Once the soil is prepared, you can sow the seed. You will want to spread it evenly over the area and then rake it into the soil. Once the seed is sown, you will want to lightly water the area to help the seed germinate.
Keep the Soil Moist
Once the seed has been sown, you will need to keep the soil moist. This will help the seeds to germinate and grow. You will want to water the area lightly every day or two, or as often as is needed to keep the soil lightly moist.
Maintain the Lawn Once it Has Sprouted
Once the sprouts appear, you will want to continue to water the area as needed and make sure that the soil remains moist. You will also want to mow the lawn regularly and fertilize it to help it to grow thick and healthy. It is also important to remove any weeds that may sprout.
