How to Cook a Corn Dog in an Air Fryer
What is a Corn Dog?
A corn dog is a classic American food consisting of a hot dog sausage encased in a thick layer of sweetcorn batter, then deep-fried in hot oil. It’s a favorite at state fairs, street food festivals and ballgames, and it’s easy to see why. The crunchy exterior, combined with the juicy hot dog inside, makes for an incredibly tasty treat!
Air Frying a Corn Dog
Air frying is a great way to make a healthier version of a corn dog. Instead of frying it in hot oil, the corn dog is cooked in an air fryer, which circulates hot air around the food to cook it. This means you get all the flavor of a deep-fried corn dog, but with much less fat and calories.
What You Need
To make a corn dog in an air fryer, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 1 hot dog sausage
- 1/2 cup of cornmeal
- 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1 egg
Instructions
To make the corn dog, start by preheating the air fryer to 400°F. While it’s heating up, mix together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a medium-sized bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and mix until combined. Dip the hot dog into the batter, making sure it’s completely covered. Place the corn dog into the air fryer basket, and cook for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
Once it’s cooked, remove the corn dog from the air fryer and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve the corn dog with your favorite condiments, and enjoy!
