How to Make a Blooming Onion in the Air Fryer
What You’ll Need
To make a blooming onion in your air fryer, you’ll need a few basic ingredients and tools. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 large onion
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of pepper
- 1 cup of beer or club soda
- Oil for spraying
Steps to Make a Blooming Onion in the Air Fryer
Step 1: Prep the Onion
Start by prepping the onion. Cut off the top 1/4 inch of the onion, then peel off the skin. Make sure to keep the root end intact. Put the onion on a cutting board and cut it into 8 wedges, but don’t cut through the root end. Place the onion root end up and push down to separate the wedges.
Step 2: Make the Batter
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Slowly pour in the beer or club soda and whisk until the batter is smooth. The batter should be the consistency of pancake batter.
Step 3: Coat the Onion
Dip the onion wedges into the batter, making sure to coat each wedge. Shake off the excess batter and place the onion on a plate or tray.
Step 4: Air Fry the Onion
Spray the air fryer basket with oil, then place the wedges in the basket. Set the temperature to 400°F and cook for 10 minutes. Flip the wedges over and cook for an additional 5 minutes. The onion should be golden brown and crispy when done.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Remove the onion from the air fryer and serve with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
