Making Churros in an Air Fryer
What You’ll Need
Making churros in an air fryer is a great way to enjoy this classic Spanish dessert without all the calories that come with deep frying. To get started you’ll need an air fryer, a churro maker or a pastry bag, and a few other items. You’ll also need the following ingredients:
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 3/4 cup of water
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of sugar
Making the Dough
The first step is to make the churro dough. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, melt the butter and add the water, vanilla extract, and sugar. Stir to combine. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a thick dough forms. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
Filling the Air Fryer
Next, fill the air fryer with the churros. To do this, use a churro maker or a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. Carefully pipe the dough into the air fryer basket, using a twisting motion to create the traditional churro shape. Make sure to leave a little space between each churro to prevent them from sticking together.
Cooking the Churros
Once the air fryer is full, set the temperature to 375°F and cook the churros for 10-12 minutes. After the timer beeps, remove the basket and carefully turn the churros over. Return the basket to the air fryer and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the churros are golden brown and crispy.
Serving the Churros
Finally, it’s time to enjoy your churros. Serve them warm with a side of melted chocolate or caramel for dipping. You can also sprinkle the churros with cinnamon sugar for an extra sweet treat. Enjoy!
